ADAM GUNTLE

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal 18 Nov 1914

Adam Guntle, 84 years old, one of the most widely known and highly respecte men of the city and county died at the home where had resided for 25 years, 701 South Wallace Avenue at 11:30 this morning. Complications of age caused is death after a serious illness of about two weeks. Mr. Guntle's health had been failing for the past two years, however. Mr. Guntle had been a resident of Montgomery County for 82 years. He was born in Ohio Dec 12, 1829, and with his parents came to this county when he was 3 years old. His father and mother moved to a farm near what is now Whitesville and it was here Mr. Guntle spent the first 1/2 century of his life. 25 years ago he moved to this city and has resided here since that time. He was actively engaged in farming even after he had moved to this city, retiring from his work only about two years ago when his health began to fail. Absolute integrity and unquestioned honesty were characteristics of the well known man that earned for him the highest respect and regard by all who knew him or had business dealings with him. Probably not a man in Montgomery County who has resided here for any length of time was unacquainted with Adam Guntle. The deceased is survived by his widow, Eliza Guntle, 3 sons, Milton and Frank of this city and George of Oswego, Kansas and one daughter, Mrs. A.S. Clements of this city. Two sisters, Mrs. Rebekah Everson of Ladoga and Mrs. Sallie Vennard of Dayton Ohio and one brother, William of this city also survive. Funeral arrangements had not been made this afternoon but the hour of the service will be announced Thursday. - kbz
